BalletX is an intensely innovative and adventurous company from Philadelphia that produces striking work by tapping into the creativity of young, exciting choreographers. The outcomes are often surprising and compelling. BalletX debuts at ArtPower! with three works by distinctive dance-makers who are making their mark on an international landscape. Silt, with choreography from Alex Ketley, poses a question: How does so much in life drift away from us? It concerns loss of self and the inexplicable change of new surroundings that affect who we are. Tobin del Cuore’s Beside Myself is inspired by consciousness and the complexities of human nature. A captivating performance combining hip-hop beats and soulful rhythms creates a metaphoric journey through darkness and light. The third piece, Switch Phase choreographed by Matthew Neenan, showcases an appealing modern dance folk style.
