Compagnie Jant-Bi has made a powerful impression on ArtPower! audiences over the past several seasons with performances that tackle difficult subjects with honesty, sensitivity, and stunning physical imagery. Now the mesmerizing all-male company returns with Waxtaan, a work that reconfigures and re-contextualizes traditional African dances from around the continent, creating a sharp commentary on politics in Africa. Accompanied by live musicians, Waxtaan also celebrates Africa’s rich history and the wealth of dance handed down from generations past.
