Exploring the "M" Wordart opening
What does the word ‘mother’ really mean to women? Throughout history, women have been defined by the role of mother regardless of decision, preference or biological ability. Exploring the “M” Word represents a critical conversation around the cultural negotiations women have made inter-generationally to the present. Stigmas and common unrealistic ideals are uncovered as myth, creating a dialogue with the larger community. This exhibition shows the complexity of motherhood and explores the maternal nexus of biological, social, cultural and psychological realities told from the perspectives of women and their relation to ‘motherhood’.
